Grazing trials with growing cattle during 4 years in Colombia confirmed the importance of tropical legumes, especially in the dry season, and the animal production potential of relatively new forages such as Zornia sp. and Stylosanthes capitata, which are adapted to poor acid soils. The contribution of Pueraria phaseoloides in combination with Andropogon gayanus is also notable; P. phaseoloides is adapted to acid soils where drought is not very severe. More detailed research on management of such pastures is required, and is in progress.
