Abstract

A trial was carried out in Minas Gerais from 11 July to 3 Oct. 1975 to compare liveweight gain under continuous grazing on Guinea grass pasture and on Guinea grass/Phaseolus atropurpureus cv. Siratro/perennial soyabean [Glycine wightii]/Stylosanthes guianensis cv. Schofield. Grazing on grass/legume pasture increased liveweight gain/ha by 3.45 times, and av. daily gain by 2.64 times compared with grass alone. Contents of CP, P and Ca were higher in the herbage of the grass/legume mixture than in grass alone. TDN required for each kg of beef produced was higher on grass alone than on the mixture.
