Description 
Shrub or small tree up to 5 m high with reflexed prickles along its branches. Leaves bipinnate with oval leaflets about 2 cm long. Terminal spikes about 10 cm long with yellow flowers.

The red straight pods, 5-10 cm long and 1 cm broad, have a high tannin content and may be lethal if consumed in large quantities.
